The Carré Rive Gauche in four points
A unique place in the world
Founded in 1977 by antique dealers Gérard Horwitz, Gérard Lévy, Josette Delvaille, and Philippe Boucaud, the Carré Rive Gauche, located between the Musée d'Orsay, the Louvre, and the historic Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, is a non-profit association under the 1901 law that now brings together around sixty stakeholders: antique dealers, gallery owners, designers, publishers, decorators, and more. It is the last district of its kind in the world and, as such, contributes to the district's cultural activity. Many of its dealers are also experts and members of professional unions. They are therefore independent and recognised for their expertise in France and internationally. Some provide assistance to auctioneers during voluntary sales and to the courts when appointed by the tribunals.
A representative of the artistic wealth of humanity
The Carré Rive Gauche offers an exceptional artistic diversity that bears witness to several millennia of art history. From antiques and Renaissance furniture to the most daring contemporary creations, including classical art, Art Deco, modern art, and design, each gallery highlights an era and a style. But its horizon does not stop at Western art; the district also showcases art from around the world: Chinese porcelain, Japanese art, African masks, Islamic art, pre-Columbian sculptures, and treasures from ancient civilizations. A true cultural crossroads, the Carré Rive Gauche reflects the passion and expertise of its professionals, always ready to share the story behind each work.
The Carré Rive Gauche : an emblematic place
between heritage and innovation
The commitment of the Carré Rive Gauche dealers to defending their discipline based on expertise and the guarantee they provide on the origin of the works is a pledge of seriousness. The association also has the vocation of transmitting and has for several years opened its doors to gallery owners, designers, decorators or publishers with new and original ideas, wishing to practice their profession with the same level of rigor. In 2025, the Carré welcomes Entrelacs art foundry rue de Beaune, Patrick Norguet designer located rue de Verneuil and Ananbo creator and publisher of luxury panoramic wallpapers.
Le Carré Rive Gauche: an exceptional place combining global influence and the defense of sustainable luxury
and preservation of craftsmanship
The Carré Rive Gauche's location attracts many foreigners, both individuals and professionals, eager to unearth rare pieces from all artistic fields and periods. With nearly 60% of its turnover generated internationally, the Carré fully contributes to the commercial attractiveness of the neighborhood. Committed to authenticity and respect for the works, its actors regularly call upon rare craft professions, thus playing an essential role in its preservation and vitality.
